update on project:

The piece itself is finished. I used the vertical photograph with the line that i posted earlier. I printed it on velvet fine art paper so that i could watercolor and draw on it. After i was finished watercoloring and drawing it, i held it up to light accidently and it looked amazing. So now i am building a light box. I bought my wood, plexiglas, and bulbs, so i’m good to go.

this week i did a combination of collage and line. i think i would like to do a couple more of these because i dont think that this is the best possible outcome… i’m kind of so so on this one. i still like the first three better.

I asked some people what they thought about the three pieces that i have so far and here is what they said:

-the three dont really work very well as a series. the two horizontal could be a series. or the two with line.

-maybe if i focused just on the drawing that would be better, the line drawing is more unique.

-the vertical piece works very well. the symmetry is nice.

-liked the shaping and contour made in the vertical piece.

-maybe use line in the collage to make it work more with the other two.

if anyone else has any further suggestions feel free to add…

These are my first three finished experimental pieces. They are poorly printed on 8.5×11 paper. The final pieces will be bigger and printed beautifully. These are just for practice, but i actually really really like how they turned out.

Last week one of our teachers was talking about how this project is supposed to be something big that we’ve always wanted to do. I realized that what I’ve always wanted to do, is combine my two art loves: my photography and my doodle-paper-cutting. This could be a huge flop… but here’s my idea:

I’m thinking about doing self-portraits (mostly because I’ve never done them) and then basically destroying them, but in a pretty way. I want to print them off very large and then draw my designs on them, cut them out, fold them, photo collage on top of them, layer them with other materials, etc. I think I would like to do at least 5 different approaches.

This idea stemmed somewhat from the image i put in the last post with the triangles on the hand. Here are a few others in the same series…

This is a vinyl piece, but if you can imagine the white as cut out paper over top of a photograph, thats more of the route i would be going.
